Visiting Days for the Public to view the prototype structures: (site is closed during rain)

Open House interactive tour, on the first Saturday of every month, starts 10am.

Cal-Earth has held these open houses now for the last eight years, and every year more people come to experience it for themselves, and to teach their children how to build a sustainable future. Around 11am Architect Khalili usually gives an informal talk, and around 1pm visitors share a pot-luck lunch and talk/network. Cal-Earth associates give tours and answer questions throughout the day. *I have my land or intend to buy land to build on. What are my steps to build an environmentally friendly project?

A. Visit Cal-Earth's Web Page. If you have no access to the Internet then call and ask for information.

B. Visit the prototype buildings on one of the Saturdays and discuss your plans.

C. Learn how to build by apprenticing at Cal-Earth if you like to be an owner-builder (see Cal-Earth's apprenticeship program).

D. Discuss your project with Cal-Earth, if your interest is in having your project designed and constructed through Cal-Earth or its consultants

*Where can I buy books and videos , Superadobe bags etc.?

Through Cal-Earth. Look at the Web Page and order. Or call to order through the Cal-Earth office.

*Do you have building permits to build with your Earth Architecture technology?

1. Cal-Earth has received several permits to construct Superadobe buildings such as the Earth One House, the Hesperia Museum and Nature Center, and other projects, after providing plans, specifications, structural analysis and by passing the required tests. Original tests and permits were issued by the Hesperia Building and Safety department in consultation with the ICBO (International Conference of Building Officials.)

2. The approved house design plans can be purchased/studied through the Apprenticeship retreat. All plans must be submitted to your own local Building Department.

*I would like to build but cannot afford the costs of the plans and the apprenticeship program. How can I learn?

Cal-Earth Institute is a non-profit educational organization set up by its founder architect Nader Khalili to be dedicated to research, development, and education and the integration of the four universal elements of earth, water, air, and fire, and their unity in sustainable built environment at the service of arts and humanity. Cal-Earth Institute does not have financial backing from any source except the sales of books, educational materials, grants, donations, and tuitions. It has at all times programs helping individuals and organizations in need in the related projects.

Cal-Earth operates on the philosophy of empowering others through education rather than hand out. If you can first learn through Cal-Earth's apprenticeship program you can best reap the long term benefit. Otherwise, the best way for learning is through the Open House, through written materials, volunteer works, and special programs.
